Mohammed Alyahya, Former Editor-in-Chief of Al Arabiya English, Named Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Middle East Initiative

The Middle East Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Mohammed Alyahya as a Senior Fellow.

"Mohammed Alyahya is a prolific analyst of the geopolitics of the Middle East, and a sharp observer and interpreter of developments in Saudi Arabia in particular," said Tarek Masoud, Ford Foundation Professor and MEI Faculty Chair. "We are very pleased to have greater access to his fertile thinking and unique perspective in his new capacity as a Senior Fellow, and we are looking forward to the many intellectual contributions he will make to Middle East-related debate, discussion, research, and teaching on campus." 

While in residence at the Kennedy School for the 2023-24 academic year, Alyahya will develop a monograph analyzing the social, political, and economic reform efforts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He will also engage with Harvard student groups, organize and moderate public events in collaboration with the faculty chair, and contribute a policy paper to be published by MEI and the Belfer Center. 

“I am honored to be named a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Initiative at the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School," said Alyahya. “I look forward to engaging with the bright minds at HKS, collaborating with MEI’s rich community of scholars, and contributing to our collective understanding of the region.” 

Mohammed Alyahya served as editor-in-chief of Al Arabiya English from 2019 to 2023. He is a senior non-resident fellow at the Hudson Institute and a senior research fellow at the Gulf Research Centre. Alyahya’s commentary and analysis have been featured in several major international news outlets, such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Guardian. Alyahya holds a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard Kennedy School and a BA in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
